Three Locals’ Choice Awards for Glenwood Hot Springs Resort

The world’s largest natural hot springs pool is a favorite place to relax, stay in shape, and have fun. Some of Glenwood Hot Springs Resort’s biggest fans are area residents, confirmed by the awards received as part of the 2023 Locals’ Choice Awards sponsored by the Glenwood Springs Post Independent. Announced on May 5, three Locals’ Choice Awards went to Glenwood Hot Springs Resort: Best Attraction, Best Gym or Fitness Studio, and Best Yoga Studio.

Best Attraction

The resort is Glenwood Springs’ oldest and most popular attraction. It also is a top attraction for the state and part of the Colorado Historic Hot Springs Loop. The pool opened to great fanfare on July 4, 1888, and the historic red sandstone bathhouse and surrounding mountains serve as a majestic backdrop to blissful mineral hot springs soaking any time of year.

However, historic doesn’t mean outdated, as demonstrated by the three Locals’ Choice Awards for Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. A Lodge and Athletic Club have been added over the years, and the family friendly Sopris Splash Zone aquatic center on the west end of the pool opened in 2019. A redesigned and improved Therapy Pool was introduced in 2022, and the East End Expansion Project currently underway is adding five new pools with varying temperatures and a shade pergola and hearth.

The new east end swimming area will feature hot plunge, cold plunge and infinity-edge pools as well as two pools with waterfalls, including one that will be grotto-like in nature. As with the existing large pool and Therapy Pool, all water for the new pools, slated to open in 2024, will come from Yampah Spring. The hot springs water features 15 naturally occurring minerals that provide one of the best soaking experiences in North America.

Best Gym or Fitness Studio

Glenwood Hot Springs Resort’s Athletic Club is the premiere local place to work out with a wide range of equipment, classes led by talented instructors six days a week, and racquetball and handball courts. Annual passes and day passes are available and include access to the gym, classes and pool. A huge bonus is the club’s wet lounge featuring a steam room, sauna, whirlpool, sundeck, private pool entrance, and men’s and women’s locker rooms.

For overnight visitors, the resort’s Wellness Package includes an Athletic Club day pass, pool admission, accommodations at the Lodge, and complimentary, made-to-order hot breakfast at the poolside Grill.

Best Yoga Studio

The Athletic Club offers 40 hours of classes a week to choose from, including various yoga options. For example, the calendar this May includes Yoga for All Levels on Mondays, Vinyasa Yoga on Tuesdays, Yogalates and Yoga Blend on Wednesdays, Sunrise Yoga on Fridays, and Yoga for Every Body on Saturdays.

There also are various types of Pilates, TRX, cycling, H2O Fit, Aqua Fitness Boot Camp, Functional Fitness, tai chi, barre, and more. Classes are included in pass fees, except for semi-private options like the Pilates Reformer Class currently offered. Reservations and/or sign up is required for optimal student-to-teacher ratios.

Glenwood Hot Springs Resort is proud to be a favorite place to hang out with family and friends and to savor soaking in hot springs, playing in Sopris Splash Zone, relaxing under private cabanas, improving fitness, and enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery. Thank you to area residents for the three Locals’ Choice Awards for Glenwood Hot Springs Resort!
