Our Employee of the Month for August is Deborah Barnekow. Deborah is our Aquatics Training Coordinator here at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. Speaking of someone that “jumps right in”, you often see Deb in the Pool working with a group of young children teaching them the life skill of learning how to swim. She always takes the time to get out and say hello to all of the lifeguards, pool attendants, her co-workers and our guests, which sparks joy in anyone she interacts with. She has inspired current lifeguards to look ahead and become instructors themselves, which ensures many young kids have the opportunity to learn how to swim.
Our Pool Manager, Taylor Mays says, “It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Glenwood Hot Springs management team, to recognize Deborah Barnekow as our Employee of the Month. As our Aquatics Training Coordinator, Deb has continued to leave a lasting impact on our guests and staff alike. As a mentor, Deb has contributed to the high standard of care that we provide here through our lifeguard team. She has also single-handedly spearheaded the return of our swim lesson program on property, developing a program that continues to grow each day. I couldn’t think of a better representation of this award, and I am honored to have Deb on our team!”
Deb has this to say after being presented with her award. “My first reaction to this award is one of being overwhelmed, but then one of deep gratitude. This job and all that it offers is a gift. When Taylor first asked me to come back, all the parameters of the job were not entirely defined. I have enjoyed the creativity to fill them out. Taylor has given me so much support and the confidence to design the SwimWell Lesson Program, and my other duties, from the start. I am so fortunate to work with such an amazing group, not only Taylor, but Trish Pickett, Kenia Contreras, our Head Lifeguards and the team of Lifeguards. It also extends to all of the departments with whom I am privileged to interact with. Glenwood Hot Springs is an amazing place to work and it takes all of us as a team to make it wonderful.”
