Kelley’s Corner: Marching Forward

If you feel the springtime urge to move outdoors with the temperature changes and increased daylight hours, embrace it! March brings, along with warmer weather, transitions in fitness activity choices. The appealing change to more extended outdoor activity time enhances the mental and emotional state of mind.

During this time of transition, it’s important to maintain focus, especially when it comes to strength training. Three percent of muscular strength can be lost after middle age due to inactivity and sarcopenia (the age-associated degeneration of muscle) becomes more common over the age of 50. Strength, particularly related to the upper body, such as grip strength, shoulder strength and stability, back strength and the connection to good posture, must be maintained through strength training.

Enjoy all the changes spring has to offer but keep marching forward this month with personal strength training and development goals intact. Happy spring!
