Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Awards Higher Education Scholarships

The recipients of the Glenwood Hot Springs Higher Education Scholarship, an endowment that totals $10,000, are Kyla Boyd, Yaritza Mendoza and Liah Ramirez.

This year marks the 25th consecutive year for the Glenwood Springs Higher Education Scholarship. The resort’s Board of Directors established the scholarship in 1995 to acknowledge the role employees play in the success of the hot springs resort and to support the value of higher education. The scholarship, which is open to all students, helps local residents attain their dreams through advanced learning at four-year universities, community colleges and trade schools. The scholarship totals $10,000; it is split between the recipients and pro-rated per semester over the course of their education. This year’s winners are Kyla Boyd, Yaritza Mendoza and Liah Ramirez. 

The scholarship winners received a letter of congratulations from John Bosco, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Chief Operations Officer and Vice President. “All of the recipients of the Higher Education Scholarship are to be commended for dedication to both their work and their dreams,” Bosco said. “On behalf of Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, I wish them the best success in their future studies.”

Kyla Boyd is a recent graduate of Coal Ridge High School. She is the daughter of Greg and Jodi Boyd of Rifle, Colorado. Kyla has been an outstanding employee working as a Spa Attendant at Spa of the Rockies since June, 2019. A stellar student, Kyla is a member of the National Honor Society, she has participated and lettered in varsity cheerleading and is an avid community volunteer. Kyla has plans to attend Colorado Mountain College – Vail Valley at Edwards, where she will study Culinary Arts.

Yaritza Mendoza is entering her sophomore year at Colorado Mesa University this fall where she is majoring in Nursing. She is the daughter of Miguel Angel Mendoza and Maria Socorro Mendoza of Silt, Colorado. In addition to being an outstanding student, Yaritza is also a devoted seasonal employee as a Team Lead at The Grill at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. She also volunteers her time with the Student Nurse Association and participates in the TRIO program offering academic support for first-generation students, financial planning, and providing professional and personal development. Yaritza is an enthusiastic volunteer and has helped with various community service projects and programs.

Liah Ramirez is a recent graduate of Glenwood Springs High School and is the daughter of Brisa Morales of Glenwood Springs. Liah is a dedicated employee of The Grill at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort and also facilitates class instruction for parent and adult workshops for Garfield County PREP, an organization that provides free comprehensive education on sexual health. Liah is also involved with Association of Youth United in Action, an organization that supports immigrant rights and social advocacy. In the fall Liah will attend Colorado Mountain College to study interior design.
