Make Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Your Winter Base Camp

Make Glenwood Hot Springs Resort Your Winter Base Camp

Choose your own adventures and cap them off with blissful soaks and sleep.

Why settle for just any hotel when a stay at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort comes with unlimited soaking at the world’s largest hot springs pool, a tasty hot breakfast, and easy access to all sorts of adventure from mellow to hard core? Whether you are traveling with immediate or extended family, a friend group, a significant other or solo, make Glenwood Hot Springs Resort your winter base camp for activities, relaxation and experiences galore.

Here are some winter season activity ideas for one Mother Nature of a good time in this beautiful section of the Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.

With the kids: Nearly all kids enjoy a swimming pool, and especially one where their parents aren’t seeking the quickest way out because the water is too cold! Our water is a very comfortable 104°F degrees in the therapy pool and 90-93°F degrees in the main pool. A Snack Bar is located poolside for hungry swimmers, making it easy to solve hunger pangs. Combine a stay with a visit to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, America’s only mountain-top theme park with an alpine coaster and other thrill rides, a 4-D movie theater, laser tag, cave tours and more to please all ages. Book our Caverns Adventure Package, and don’t forget to stop by Glenwood Toys & Gifts in downtown Glenwood Springs.

Traveling with teens: The thrill rides at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park are sure to get your teens talking and so will the excitement of downhill skiing and snowboarding at Sunlight Mountain Resort. With 730 skiable acres and 72 trails that converge back to the lodge, it’s a great place to given teens a little freedom and satisfy various skier levels in the family at a much lower price than larger ski resorts. Check out the Ski, Swim & Stay Package and the wide variety of ice cream and pizza places around town.

Multi-generational vacation: With two places to soak and swim—the warmer therapy pool for easy conversations and soaking sore muscles and the main pool for swimming laps, doing tricks on the diving board and simply enjoying the water—there is lots of space to spread out. Just walk across the street to the poolside Grill for a free breakfast with every stay at Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge, and there’s no need to hop in a car to check out the shops and restaurants downtown. It’s an easy walk across the pedestrian bridge. Looking for something outdoors that everyone can do? Consider a snowshoe outing on the free trails at Sunlight Mountain Resort, just rent or bring your gear.

A girlfriend getaway: Sometimes you just need some time away with your gal pals, and Glenwood Springs is an ideal place. Soak as much as you want in the natural hot springs, book a spa treatment locally, head out for a snowshoe or Nordic ski on area trails, and toast your friendship with a handcrafted cocktail at Stoneyard Distillery’s tasting room. Ready for a night out? Riviera Supper Club is a classic place to find a large wine list and a seasonal food menu that focuses on fresh and local. For longer stays, make Glenwood Springs your base camp and go on easy day trips in the Roaring Fork Valley to Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt and Carbondale.

Guys trip: Book a snowmobile trip with Sunlight Mountain Resort, either the 2.5-hour Adventure Tour that covers 30 miles or go big with the Electric Mountain Lodge Tour to just outside of Paonia approximately 50 miles each way. Go there and back for a big day or stay overnight and return to Glenwood Springs the next day. You’ll definitely want to soak after being on a sled for multiple hours. Fishing in the winter also is an option, or try out fat bikes on local trails. Cap off the day with local brews at Glenwood Canyon Brewpub, Casey Brewing Taproom and Ball Brewing.

Solo Travelers: Sometimes it’s the easiest and most refreshing way to travel, by yourself! Or perhaps you are on a business trip and can add on a few days. Go for it! If you enjoy working out, relaxing in steam rooms and saunas, and taking classes like Pilates, yoga, stage cycling, barre and more, consider the Wellness Package, which includes access to our top-notch Athletic Club. To link up with other travelers choose from the three different snowmobile tours offered by Sunlight Mountain Resort or explore area forests on snowshoes, Nordic skis or fat bikes. Ask local outfitters about the best routes for your fitness level. Browse the boutique shops, bring a good book to a coffee shop, and meet friendly locals over local beers and spirits.

Ready for Romance: There is nothing more romantic than soaking under the stars or as the sun peeks over the mountains. There’s a full day of play that awaits outdoors and a comfortable room to come back to at Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge. Book a table at one of the many great restaurants downtown, stop by Riviera Supper Club for a glass of wine and live music, and attend Glenwood Vaudeville Revue for a good laugh. If you have an extra day, head an hour east to Beaver Creek and Vail to wander around or if you live on Colorado’s Front Range, stop by on the way home for a sweet ending to your getaway.

Make Glenwood Hot Springs Resort your winter base camp, and you are sure to go home talking about what you want to do next time. Perhaps as soon as the summer!
