My Joyous Memories of the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.

I have been fortunate to have a wide variety of fond memories from my time spent at the Hot Springs Pool. During my "stint" as the pool manager from 2/1981-2/1982, I had the pleasure of working with a great group of people. Some of the lifeguards during that year were Gary Stubler, Charles Zelenka and Steve Campbell, and their personalities added to the joy of the guests. There were many other cashiers, "bubble gummers", lifeguards and slide attendants who contributed to our diverse group. The summer of 1981 witnessed the opening of the big, green slide and working the kinks out of it's twists and turns. I remember on evening in the winter when Jimmy Buffet approached the pool cashiers (the registers were in front of the pool managers door at the time) to come into the pool. I was standing behind the cashiers and caught his eye. He realized I recognized him and gave me a look as if to say "please don't say anything", which I didn't.

Over the course of my 25 years of teaching swimming, the last 17 of those years were spent teaching swimming in the Hot Springs Pool for the City of Glenwood Springs. There was a group of us who fell into the older age category of the swimming instructors who came back year after year to teach our young charges swimming skills. I LOVED being able to teach swimming in a 90 degree pool and have students who weren't freezing after 15 minutes. Some of the old (I use that term lovingly) guards were Rachel Stubler and Kathy Westley and many more.

I have had the opportunity to be a pool cashier and a lifeguard at the Hot Springs Pool over the years and I have shared the wonderful history with the numerous guests who have enjoyed the healing waters. I have been a member of the Glenwood Hot Springs Athletic Club for 32 years and I rave about the quality of the facility to anyone who will listen, as well as the friendly and sincere people who staff the athletic club.

Hank Bosco was my "boss" when I was the pool manager and I cannot say enough about this wonderful man. He has devoted himself to promoting and continuously improving the image of the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, as well as ensuring the guests who visit the Hot Springs Pool experience a satisfying and rewarding "plunge" into the gem of Glenwood Springs.

Thanks for the memories!
