A Love for Glenwood Hot Springs - 118 years and counting

A love for Glenwood Hot Springs – 118 years and Counting Glenwood Hot Springs holds so many wonderful family memories for me, and I passed that on to my own children. It will always have a special place in my heart!

I have a special connection to Glenwood. My grandmother, Evangeline Hinman, was born in Glenwood in 1904. She was the first schoolteacher in Silt, CO and her husband’s company, Hinman Brothers Construction, built the first road through Glenwood Canyon. She was a teacher all her life and retired in Carbondale. Every day she swam in the Hot Springs Pool and joined the water aerobics for seniors. My mother, Kay, was also born in Glenwood in 1937.  Even though we lived in Denver, we spent many days visiting Grandma and enjoying the pool.

Grandma would fill her thermos with the pure mineral water in the little spring and swore by the health benefits. She lived to be 96 so perhaps she was right!

From the time I was 6 months old I have enjoyed the Hot Springs. Every summer I would get to spend a week with my Grandma and we’d spend every morning at the pool, where she knew almost everyone. The best times were when our cousins in Montrose would come meet us for the day and we’d picnic in the grass and swim all day. When I had my own children, I took them every year to enjoy the sun and healing waters of the Springs. It has been fun to see the renovations and improvements over the years – we come at least once a year and always stay at the Lodge. Even when passing through, we always make time for a soak. I look forward to introducing my grandchildren to the Hot Springs for a 5th generation to treasure!
